BACKGROUND
Dellen earned their B.A. In Zoology and Geography from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2023. Starting in Summer of 2024, they conducted research within the Salamander Population Adaptation Research Collaboration Network, funded by the NSF's Research and Mentoring for Postbaccalaureates program. This research (awaiting publication) examines the thermal biology of the widespread eastern red-backed salamander (Plethodon cinereus), and Dellen hopes that it might inform future research relating to the impacts of climate change on amphibians and other ectotherms. Dellen has also assisted with other research within the Gangloff Lab of Amphibian and Reptile Ecophysiology, collecting data and working on manuscripts for projects that examine the morphology and thermoregulation of Cincinnati common wall lizards (Podarcis muralis).

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dellen is broadly interested in how organisms interact with and are impacted by their environments, with a focus on habitat use and community dynamics. Their master's work investigates whether and how snake species interact at their Killdeer Plains Wildlife Refuge, centering the endangered plains garter snake (Thamnophis radix). They hope that gaining a better understanding of their habitat associations and community interactions can be used to improve conservation outcomes for this isolated population.
Outside of their master's research, Dellen is usually still spending time outside hiking and herping. When they aren't on the trails, they enjoy playing boardgames and video games, crocheting, and making pyrography art pieces!
